Middle School Informational Meeting at Saratoga Independent School

Interested parents are invited at 6:00pm on Thursday, November 1 to learn about Saratoga Independent School's Middle School. A thriving Sixth Grade opened in September 2018 and will be followed by Seventh Grade in September 2019, and Eighth Grade in September 2020. We look forward to sharing information about curriculum, athletics, fine and performing arts, our advisory and leadership programs, and much more.

Family Saturday: Puppets on the Move 10/2

At Family Saturday: Puppets on the Move at Tang Teaching Museum and Gallery at Skidmore College kids will look at the elaborate puppets by artist Karl Wirsum in 3-D Doings: The Imagist Object in Chicago Art, 1964-1980, and then create their own moving puppets using paper cut outs, fasteners, fabric, markers, buttons, and various embellishments.

Family Saturdays foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art activity. Most programs run from 2:00 – 3:30 pm and include a tour of a specific exhibition.  

All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children ages 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. All materials will be provided, and be prepared to get messy and have fun. And dress accordingly! Reservations are required and may be made one week in advance of each program. Halloween Market at Saratoga Farmers' Market 10/31

When the Saratoga Farmers' Market happens to be on Halloween, they have to throw a P-A-R-T-Y! Visit the market on Wed, October 31, 3-6 pm at High Rock Park for a spooky celebration that's free, family-friendly, and has something for everyone. Festivities include trick-or-treating, a costume contest for kids (with lots of prizes!), FREE (no-mess) pumpkin painting for the kiddos, a children's activity hosted by the Saratoga Springs Public Library, live music by 18 Strings Of Trouble, food tastings, and maybe a little fright! It's also their last Wednesday market for the season!

Library Babies at the Saratoga Springs Public Library 11/2

Have you heard about the Library Babies program at the Saratoga Springs Public Library? This is an informal playgroup for babies under the age of 24 months with a parent or caregiver. It will include finger plays, rhymes, songs and stories during the first 15 minutes. No registration required.

Story Time with Jane Yolen & Heidi Stemple 11/4

On Sunday, November 4th at 1pm, Northshire Bookstore in Saratoga Springs welcomes children’s authors Jane Yolen and her daughter Heidi Stemple for a special story time that’s all about birds featuring Fly With Me, Crow Not Crow, and Counting Birds.

Jane Yolen is an author of children’s books, fantasy, and science fiction, including Owl Moon, The Devil’s Arithmetic, and How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight? She is also a poet, a teacher of writing and literature, and a reviewer of children’s literature. She has been called the Hans Christian Andersen of America and the Aesop of the twentieth century.

Heidi Stemple lives and writes on a big old farm in Massachusetts that she shares with one very small cat who lives inside, and a dozen deer, a family of bears, three coyotes, two bobcats, a gray fox, tons of birds, and some very fat groundhogs who live outside. she has published more than twenty-five books and numerous short stories and poems, mostly for children. She also happens to be Jane Yolen’s daughter.

Mini City Halloween Guide

Fall Festival at the Saratoga Farmers' Market Sat. Oct. 27th

Bring the whole family to celebrate the fall season in beautiful downtown Saratoga Springs with fun and games at the 17th Annual Saratoga Downtown Business Association Fall Festival on Saturday, October 27th from 11 am to 4 pm! 

The Saratoga Farmers' Market will have lots of fall-themed goodies and activities from 9 am to 1 pm at High Rock Park. With over 65 vendors, the market will be packed with seasonal favorites like pumpkin-spice lattes, hand-painted pumpkins, pies, pumpkin-flavored baked goods, fall apparel, and all sorts of delicious locally made offerings! Visitors can also enjoy live music from 2 musicians and a free fall craft for kids hosted by Northeast Parent and Child Society. And, they will announce the winner of their "Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin" contest at 10 am.

Happy Owl-o-ween! - Live Birds of Prey at the Saratoga Springs Public Library

"Happy Owl-o-ween! Live Birds of Prey" is a wildlife program sponsored by the Southern Adirondack Audubon Society in the Dutcher Community Room of the Saratoga Springs Public Library on Wednesday, October 24 at 7 p.m.

Program presenter Trish Marki is the Executive Director of the Saratoga Springs based Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York, an IRS 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization. She will introduce the audience to live birds of prey such as the Eastern Screech Owl and Barn Owl. This program is open to the public and is free of charge, no registration required.

Saratoga Farmers' Market Customer Appreciation Day Wed. 10/24

On Wednesday, October 24th, the Saratoga Farmers' Market will host Customer Appreciation Day, one of their favorite annual events. Visit the market at High Rock Park from 3-6 pm for lots of sales, specials, and freebies! This is their way of saying 'thank you' for your support as their season comes to an end. Enjoy tastings and samples throughout the market, live music, and free children's activities. Plus, they will have free pony rides for children courtesy of Adirondack Dreamcatcher Farm (tips appreciated). Haunted Halloween Walk at Moreau Lake State Park Sat. Oct. 27th

On Saturday, October 27th from 6 PM – 7:30 PM head to Moreau Lake State Park for their Haunted Halloween Walk, a guided SCARY walk visiting some funny, some scary presenters. The Saratoga Day of Play at Pitney Meadows Community Farm 10/20

Saratoga Regional YMCA Truck or Treat 10/20

Get dressed up in your Halloween best and bring the entire family to the Saratoga Springs branch for their Trunk or Treat family event on Saturday, October 20th from 2-4pm! Decorate your trunk and bring candy to share with all of our families who'll be trunk or treating (families decorating their trunk are asked to provide their own candy).

For those that aren’t interested in decorating their trunk, you can still join in for some Halloween fun in a safe environment.

17th Annual Haunted Hayride at Gavin Park in Wilton

Join Operation Adopt A Soldier for its 17th annual Haunted Hayride at Gavin Park in Wilton. 

Dates: Oct. 19, 20 and Oct. 26, 27, 5 to 10 p.m

A family friendly feature will be available from 4 to 6 p.m.
The event offers fun for all ages with games, food, face painting and a costume contest at 6:30 p.m. nightly.
