Malta Montessori

100 Saratoga Village Blvd. Suite 34a Malta, NY

The Malta Montessori School was established in 2006 and has experienced much growth as our program and children have aged. Malta Montessori currently enrolls children from the ages of 15 months to 12 years for children between Toddler Class and 6th Grade.  We strive to provide a beautiful, stimulating, caring and enriching learning environment where children will have every opportunity to learn to the best of their abilities.

We are committed to providing a quality education in the Montessori tradition. With a community of parents, teachers, and students, we will instill a love of learning, sense of wonder, respect for others and the environment, while at the same time encourage imagination and independence.

Forest Kindergarteners participate in circle time, cultivating an intimacy with language and improving their balance and fine and gross motor development.

The Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children. Montessori schools have had over 100 years of success throughout the world. The thoughtfully prepared learning environment values the development of the whole child—physical, social, emotional, cognitive. Components necessary for an authentic Montessori environment include multi-age groupings that foster peer learning, uninterrupted blocks of work time, and guided choice of work activity. Additionally, a full complement of specially designed Montessori learning materials are meticulously arranged and available for use in an aesthetically pleasing environment.

Age ranges for our classrooms are 15 months-3 years old for the Toddler classroom, 3 years-6 years for Children's House, 6 years-9 years for Lower Elementary and 9 years-12 years for Upper Elementary class.

The teacher to child ration in the classroom is 1:4 for the Toddler classroom, Children's House is 1:10 and both Lower and Upper Elementary is 1:10.

Each day the children go outside on the playground.  Toddlers and half day Children's House students spend 1/2 hour on the playground in the morning.  Full day Children's House students go outside for 1/2 hour in the morning, and 1/2 hour in the afternoon.  Elementary students spend 45 mins on the playground after lunch time. Our playground is created with many natural materials. We provide climbing, swinging and rocking equipment, large pieces of wood and lumber to build with, and sand/dirt areas for digging.

Exploring the world with their sense and bodies allows young children to develop much more than strength and balance. Countless studies have shown the importance of outdoor play to children’s mental, intellectual and emotional development as well as physical.

Montessori education offers our children opportunities to develop their potential as they step out into the world as engaged, competent, responsible, and respectful citizens with an understanding and appreciation that learning is for life. Hallmarks of Montessori education include:

  • Each child being valued as an individual

  • Beginning at an early age, Montessori students developing order, coordination, concentration, and independence

  • Students being part of a close, caring community

  • Montessori students enjoying freedom within limits

  • Students supported in becoming active seekers of knowledge, self-correction and self-assessment

Malta Montessori provides a unique environment for one-on-one learning and small class sizes for elementary students with a very individualized education. We also offer specials classes throughout our school week dependent on which program the children are enrolled in.  These classes include Music, Art, Spanish, Modern Dance, Yoga and Tae Kwon Do.

Through several seasonal celebrations and observations, children develop a sense of rhythm, security and wonder.
