Hop into Spring with the Domestic Rabbit 4-H Club
Hop into Spring with the Domestic Rabbit 4-H Club at the Saratoga Springs Public Library on Sunday, March 18th from 2-3pm. Meet and greet 4-H club members and some of the rabbits they care for. Learn about rabbit care, hear stories, and more. Group members are from Saratoga County and range in ages 8-15. No registration required.
Family Saturday: Green Things Grow
Join us March 17 for Family Saturday: Green Things Grow. We will spend time looking at and talking about the desert landscapes photographed by artists in This Place. Then we will make dioramas of deserts with green growth, using model magic clay and other art material.
Family Saturdays foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art activity. Most programs run from 2:00 – 3:30 pm and include a tour of a specific exhibition.
All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children ages 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. Materials are provided. Reservations are required—for additional information and reservations, call the Tang’s Visitor Service Desk at 518-580-8080.

St. Patrick's Day Family Celebration at the Library
On Saturday, Mar 17th at 1pm head to the Clifton Park Halfmoon Library for their annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Led by local performer and educator Diane Payette, the program will include stories, a sing-a-long, Irish dancers and maybe a visit from a Leprechaun! A light snack of Irish Soda Bread will be available. No registration is required, and siblings are welcome.
Mise Eire Irish Dancers at The Children's Museum at Saratoga
Join The Children's Museum at Saratoga as we experience a little of the St. Patrick’s Day spirit with a visit from the dancers of the Mise Eire Irish Dancers of Saratoga. At Mise Eire, they believe in a healthy, fun approach to Irish dance. During classes, the dancers learn dance skills, techniques, and steps, which are woven together with the concepts of self-awareness, positive self-esteem, and the value and importance of team work. This is a drop in program best suited for families with children of all ages. Friday, Mar 16, 2018 - 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, free with museum admission.
Creativity Corner at The Children's Museum at Saratoga
On Thursday, Mar 15th head to The Children's Museum at Saratoga (69 Caroline St, Saratoga Springs) from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM for Creativity Corner.
During this afternoon program we’ll work together in our art room and let your creativity be your guide. Join a museum educator and utilize household materials to create a new invention, up cycled artwork and more! Cost: Free with museum admission.

What is Maple Weekend?
Maple Weekend is a chance for the public to come to the farm to learn about New York’s maple sugarmaking processes and traditions and to provide a chance to taste pure maple syrup in its many forms – right from the source. This event is organized by and sponsored the New York State Maple Producers Association. We are proudly funded by both our members and the NYS Department of Agriculture.
Visitors to Maple Weekend can:
- TASTE a pure and natural food product at its freshest and in its many forms.
- LEARN how maple syrup and other maple confections are made.
- EXPERIENCE the unique family traditions of making maple syrup in New York State.
- CELEBRATE New York’s first agricultural harvest of the season in a family-friendly environment.
- MEET the producers who annually make New York the second largest maple producing state in the U.S.
- SHARE in the many ways to cook and bake with maple syrup, maple sap and other maple drinks and products.
- WITNESS sustainable agriculture at its best.

How much does it cost?
Tours and product samples are offered at most sites free of charge.(museums are the exception)
On-site pancake breakfasts, where available, incur a per-plate cost and prices vary by location. Check out producers offering a pancake breakfast here!
What should I wear?
Many locations are rustic and most will be muddy. Dress in layers and wear closed-toe or insulated footwear.

Maple Sugar Basics at Up Yonda Farm
Come to Up Yonda and discover the craft that has become a legend in the northeast. As the sun begins to warm the trunks of sugar maple trees, sap starts to flow. This marks the start of the sugaring season in the Adirondacks. Join us for Maple Sugar Basics and enjoy the process that yields sweet rewards! We'll tap, collect, and boil the sap of sugar maples on the property. We'll cover all the steps to get from sap to syrup.

Habitat Hunters (a SaratogaREADS! Program)
What is a habitat? Who lives there? Meet a live animal from our living collection and explore how season relates to habitat on Saturday, March 10th from 2-3pm at the Saratoga Springs Public Library.
This program, presented by CMOST, reflects the conditions of the season it is presented in. For example – in winter children will learn about hibernation and in spring they will learn how the change in season affects the animal inhabitants. Children will use natural building materials to make a habitat for an animal. For grades K-1 and caregivers. Please register children only by clicking the button below:
Sled Dogs in the Classroom at Saratoga Spa State Park's Creekside Classroom
Celebrate the beginning of the 2018 Iditarod with Sled Dogs in the Classroom at Saratoga Spa State Park's Creekside Classroom on Saturday, March 10th from 1 PM - 3 PM.
Participants will learn about the role the sled dog has played in history, followed by a meet and greet with live sled dogs during this exciting living history program. Musher Vic DiSanto will illustrate the story of the sled dog, from the Inuit creation myth to the Iditarod with stories and pictures. Children will enjoy viewing images of some of history’s greatest sled dogs, including Balto and Togo, and the men and women mushers who drove them. Participants will also be given a hands-on introduction to the tools of a musher’s trade, including harnesses, dog booties, lines, sled, snowshoes and cold weather clothing.
Vic DiSanto has extensive experience with abandoned and abused sled dogs, and will explain the special breed characteristics and needs particular to the Northern family of dogs. Participants will be given an opportunity to meet and pet members of the sled dog team.
This program is appropriate for ages 5 to 12 and their caregivers. This event is free. Space is limited and registration is required. Please call Alli at (518) 584-2000 Ext. 116 to register.
St. Patrick's Day Family Matinee: An Introduction to Irish Dance & Music at Caffe Lena
Enjoy Saint Patricks Afternoon in style at this family friendly event on Saturday March 17th starting at 1pm at Caffe Lena. The Grady Girls (family band from Ithaca, NY) and special guests Mise Eire Irish Dancers Saratoga will present an afternoon program of Irish music and dance tailored especially for young people.
Come feast your ears and eyes at this multi-faceted presentation of Irish dance tunes (accompanied by live dancers!) and childrens songs.
Admission free and open to the public. Caffe Lena is located at 47 Phila Street in Saratoga Springs.
Opera Saratoga: The Ugly Duckling at the Clifton Park - Halfmoon Public Library
On Sunday, Mar 11th, head to the Clifton Park - Halfmoon Library (475 Moe Road Clifton Park), at 1pm for Opera Saratoga's performance of The Ugly Duckling. Through this adaptation of the beloved Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale, children will be exposed to operatic music and classical singing while exploring the important themes of diversity and tolerance. For families and children ages three and up. No registration required.
Family Saturday: Music Along the Borders
Join the folks at the Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College on March 10 for Family Saturday: Music Along the Borders. Participants will spend time in Along the Border and talk about artist Guillermo Galindo's musical instrument series crafted from objects found along the Mexico-United States border. Galindo's instruments are constructed from cans, shoes, bicycle wheels and much more. Kids will make their own instruments from a variety of objects then play music together!
