The llamas of Dakota Ridge Farm will return to the Saratoga Farmers' Market on Saturday, October 13, 9 am to 1 pm, at High Rock Park! Meet them, pet them, and learn all about these gentle and loveable creatures. Dakota Ridge Farm is one of our favorite visitors and we welcome these mystical and magical llamas for their fourth visit to the Saratoga Farmers' Market. Dakota Ridge Farm also invites children to decorate a bookmark with llama fiber. And, new this year, Dakota Ridge Farm will have a display of high-quality llama fiber products including ponchos, blankets, socks, and more. Don't miss this wonderful free, annual event!

Family Fire Feast at Pitney Meadows Community Farm 10/13

The Family Fire Feast on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 13th at Pitney Meadows Community Farm will offer families the opportunity to enjoy locally grown foods cooked by a new generation of local chefs in their live open fire pits.

Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, kite-flying, games, demonstrations by mounted Saratoga Springs police, and hands-on activities for all ages. Served in their open-air "high tunnel," this festive fall event -- supporting programs for children at Pitney Meadows -- will begin at noon and run through 4 p.m. Entertainment by local artists Corry Loveday and Elizabeth Woodbury Kasius and Heard will be performed throughout the day. Pitney Meadows Community Farm is located at 223 West Avenue in Saratoga Springs.

Artful Afternoons at The Hyde Collection

Artful Afternoons is an afternoon drop-in program for children ages 6 to 12 and their guardians at The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren St, Glens Falls, on Wednesday at 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM.

The group begins by examining a work from the Museum's permanent collection or exhibitions, then visits the Art Studio to put the children's discoveries into action. A different topic is explored each week.

Head to Northshire Bookstore on Friday, October 5th at 10:30 am for a special Story Time with popular picture book author & illustrator Jennifer Sattler who will be the special guest star at story time!

She'll share her two latest books - Bully and Bundle Up!

"Bully"

Bully the bullfrog lives in a pond full of lilies. The flowers are beautiful, fragrant, and enjoyed by the many other creatures that also inhabit the pond. The pond is a very pleasant place to live. Or it should be. Instead, Bully decides that only he should be able to enjoy the beautiful lilies. He demands that the other inhabitants of the pond leave. And once Bully has the flowers to himself, his selfish behavior almost destroys them. Can anyone stop Bully and his bullying ways? As it turns out, the answer is YES Using humor and whimsy, author-illustrator Jennifer Sattler masterfully shows young readers that standing up together can make all the difference in the world.

"Bundle Up"

Starting with a pair of yellow mittens, a purple hippo prepares to bundle up to go outside and play in the snow. Using humor and visual clues, primary and secondary colors are identified for the toddler set. The third entry in a new board book series by artist Jennifer Sattler (Dirty Birdies and Jungle Gym).

The 2018 Round Lake Zombie Walk Benefit Sat. Oct. 6th

The ZOMBIES return once again to Round Lake on Saturday, October 6th from 4:30-7:30 for the The 2018 Round Lake Zombie Walk Benefit! This is a free, fun family event that collects food donations for the Regional Food Bank. Participants are asked only to bring a couple of non-perishable food items to add to the pile, which will be in a clearly marked open trailer in the parking lot.

The schedule:
4:30 to 5:30- MAKEUP AND MACABRE MERRIMENT
Anyone interested in participating is asked to meet at the Zim Smith parking Lot in The Village Of Round Lake. Parking is limited so carpooling drop-offs is suggested. Free spooky makeup and simple carnival-style games and silly prizes will keep everyone bustling! 

5:30-6:30- THE WALK
The shambling mob of undead descend into the labyrinthine Village of Round Lake in search of donations. All offerings by Village residents will be clearly visible, and The Mobile Zombie Action Squad will be prowling the streets to assist the undead in retrieval and transport of this year's offerings. 

6:30-7:30- THE FINALE
Upon returning to The Zim Smith Lot, The Zombies are tempted into THE LEGENDARY CINNAMON BUN BRAIN EATING COMPETITION! Games and prizes and TREMENDOUS LIVE MUSIC round out the hour, with an INCREDIBLY AWESOME FINALE FEATURING

The Saratoga Giant Pumpkinfest 2018

The Saratoga Chamber Of Commerce, Saratoga Spa State Park, and the Spa City Farmers Market are proud to host New York's Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off this Sunday, September 30th from 9am to 5pm! Giant pumpkin growers from the Northeast compete to find the biggest pumpkin of the year! This year prizes will total $8,500!!

Join their growing partnership for this free, family fun event and support local agriculture. Saratoga Pumpkinfest provides an opportunity for local growers from across Saratoga County, the capitol district and beyond to compete to determine who grew the largest pumpkin, squash, watermelon and more. The fest is an officially sanctioned weigh-off event, overseen by Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC), officiates of weigh-offs for growing competitions throughout the world. This gives our regional competitors the chance to win additional prizes while competing for a world record.

This year’s event will be held Sunday, Sept 30th on the front lawn area of the Lincoln Baths in Saratoga Spa State Park, rain or shine. It is adjacent to the Spa City Farmers' Market on Rt 9N where 30,000 cars pass by daily. There will be unlimited parking next to the event which can hold our expectation of 10,000 people attending.

Bank Exhibit Grand Re-Opening at The Children's Museum at Saratoga

On Friday, September 28th from 10:30am to 4:30pm join The Children's Museum at Saratoga, (69 Caroline St Saratoga Springs) as they reopen their newly renovated bank exhibit to the public. This will be a great time to come and see the new exhibit components and activities that have been added to the exhibit space sponsored by Adirondack Trust Company. Science Explorers at The Children's Museum at Saratoga

On Thursday, Sep 27th from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM The Children's Museum at Saratoga (69 Caroline St Saratoga Springs) holds it’s Science Explorers program, free with museum admission and suited for kids of all ages.

Join them for this popular weekly program where we discover the different ways in which science is all around us.

Horse Explorers Series

On Thursday, Sep 27th from 10:30 to 11:15am head to The National Museum of Racing (191 Union Ave. Saratoga Springs) for their Horse Explorers Series, children are free with a paid adult admission for this series recommended for ages 3-6.

“Horse Explorers” is a hands-on series intended to creatively educate children about horses by developing age-appropriate skills in disciplines including art, literacy, science and math. The program will be staffed by the Museum’s professional educators.

Fairy House Exhibit and Sunflower Contest at Pitney Meadows 9/22

Pitney Meadows Community Farm is hosting an enchanting event with dozens of fairy houses on display and judges measuring the sunflowers in the contest for the tallest and largest flower head on Saturday, September 22 at 12 PM - 3 PM. All ballooning activities are weather dependent. Ballooning is a fair weather sport. Balloons will not fly in the rain. Winds must also be light in order for balloons to fly safely. Ideal conditions are for wind speeds to be 3-5 MPH. As wind speeds increase beyond 8-10 it is unlikely balloons will be able to fly. Flight updates are provided on our Facebook site and on twitter for each flight and is shared shortly after the weather and decisions are shared with the pilots. Please be considerate on our Facebook page! 

We understand the weather can be frustrating but safety always comes first in our decision making. We are all volunteers , we are as disappointed as you are when they don’t fly.
