The Backstretch Babies Drop In Program is offered for young children two years old and younger at the The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, 191 Union Ave Saratoga Springs on Wednesday, August 21st from 10-11am. These weekly programs during the Saratoga racing season will feature a short story or activity followed by free play with our sensory-friendly toys. Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. from July 10 through Aug. 28. Free with a paid adult admission.

Choosing a hospital and provider to deliver your baby can be a tough decision. The Expectant Parent Night class at Saratoga Hospital on Tuesday, Aug 13th from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM is designed to introduce you to the Women's Health Services Unit and the neonatal providers, Saratoga Hospital Midwives, and Saratoga OBGYN at Myrtle Street. The class will include an overview of the services available, an introduction to the other classes offered to expectant parents, time for questions, and conclude with a tour of the Maternity Unit.

The Puppet People return with "The Firebird" at Saratoga Springs Public Library on Wednesday, August 14th. Inspired by the Russian folktale and popular ballet, watch as even the impossible is possible, as the mythical firebird comes to life and Ivan and Princess Yelena team up to break the enchantment placed over their kingdom. This 50 minute magical puppet fantasy features beautifully handcrafted marionettes, lavish costumes, vivid sets, and a large body puppet; masterly accompanied by Stravinsky's musical score from the ballet of "The Firebird." Explore themes such as: cooperation, friendship, courage, self - esteem and responsibility, in our newest puppet production.

Join the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, August 10 at 2:00pm for a special Family Saturday event with the artist Martin Kersels. The artist, whose work is included in the Tang Teaching Museum collection, is known for his sculpture, photography, installation, and performances. He is best known for his laughter-inducing works that consider the dichotomies of humor and pathos within the human condition. Kersels injects a playfulness in his work, often using his six-foot-seven-inch body as part of his artistic practice, to reveal the awkwardness associated with not belonging. Join us for this special event in which students can meet and work with the acclaimed artist.
Family Saturdays foster multigenerational creative collaboration through looking at artwork in our galleries, discussing and sharing ideas, and engaging in a hands-on art activity inspired by those conversations.
All programs run from 2:00 to 3:30 PM and are free and open to the public, and suitable for children ages 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions.

About Martin Kersels
Born in 1960 in Los Angeles, Martin Kersels currently lives and works in New Haven, Connecticut, where he is the director of graduate studies in sculpture at Yale University. He received from UCLA both his BA in 1984 and MFA in 1995. From 1984 to 1993, Kersels participated in collaborative performances with SHRIMPS, an alternative performance art group associated with artful maladroit actions that he co-founded. His decision to expand his practice of performative gestures and collaborations to include performative sculptures, objects, and assemblages was pivotal. His objects and projects have been the subject of major solo and group exhibitions at museums around the world, including a 2007 exhibition at the Tang, Opener 12: Martin Kersels — Heavyweight Champion.
