Our mission at Pitney Meadows Community Farm is to celebrate and explore agricultural education, healthy food production and recreation on this preserved working farm.
We are committed to empowering community members to grow their own produce and educating children of all ages about the vital importance of regenerative agriculture, healthy food and good nutrition. Beginning at 11am on October 12th, you can pick up your Flavorfeast "passport-map" of participating restaurants/businesses in front of Fingerpaint Marketing on the corner of Broadway and Division Street. This map will help you plan your day's itinerary of travel to a variety of restaurant destinations for $1 food samples from countries all around the world.
In addition to food samples at restaurant locations on Broadway, Phila Street, and Henry Street, there will be restaurants from outside the center of town set up in The Downtowner Parking Lot, on the corner of Broadway and Division Street. Foreign cars provided by Keeler Motor Car Company will also be on display on Division Street as part of the celebration.
Entertainment, including Asian dance, fiddling, a German accordion band, drumming, Irish Step Dancing, and more will take place at The Downtowner, Parting Glass Lot, and Adirondack Trust Drive Thru as well as throughout the city streets. Join Kelly Duheme, IBCLC, in collaboration with Saratoga Midwifery, Saratoga OBGYN at Myrtle Street, and Saratoga WIC, for a FREE support group to connect with other breastfeeding mothers at Saratoga Hospital (211 Church Street, Saratoga Springs) on Saturday, Oct 12th from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
We will celebrate our successes, share our struggles, and offer guidance and support to help both mom and baby throughout their breastfeeding journey. Expectant mothers are encouraged to attend, and the group is open to all mothers regardless of delivery location. Grandmothers and siblings (up to age 5) are also welcome.

The 19th Great Pumpkin Challenge is this Saturday, October 12th! This event features a 5K (walk or run) and 10K (run) through the beautiful and historic Saratoga Spa State Park. The day also includes a 1 Mile Fun Run for kids 12 and under, starting around 10:30am.
The 5k and 10k begin at the same time, 9:30am with the Start and Finish at the Columbia Pavilion. The event is NET Chip Timed, and offers disposable chips/bibs. There is limited parking available near the start line, but plenty of parking is available, with shuttles from designated parking lots. Prices for the 5K and 10K - $25 through October 1st. $28 until October 9th (online registration ends), $30 by October 11th at 6 p.m. (in person only). The 1 mile Kids Fun Run - $10.

Horse Explorers is a weekly program held at the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame on Thursdays through December 19th starting at 10:30am and led by the Museum's educators. Each week covers interactive horse-related topics in art, literacy, science and math. It is recommended for ages 3-6 years old.

The Frances Young Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College announces its Fall 2019 Family Saturdays, a series of multigenerational creative collaborations on each Saturday from October 5 through November 23.
Each program includes looking at artwork in the museum’s fall exhibitions, discussing and sharing ideas, and engaging in a hands-on art activity inspired by those conversations. The spring exhibitions includeElevator Music 39: Bug; Beauty and Bite; Serious Sparkle; and Ree Morton: The Plant That Heals May Also Poison.
Most of the free programs run from 2:00 to 3:30 PM, unless otherwise specified, and are suitable for children ages 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions.
This fall the Tang will be offering an extra session for tweens on two Saturdays: Oct. 26 and Nov. 9. On those days, the session from 1:00 to 2:30 PM will be for children age 5 to 9 and their adult companions; and the session from 3:00 to 4:30 PM will be for tweens age 10 to 13 and their adult companions.
Fall also brings the 17th Annual Make-a-Turkey-Out-of-a-Potato Festival, which will take place Saturday Nov. 23, the weekend before Thanksgiving.
Registration is required for all Family Saturday events. You can register beginning one week before each program. To register, call the Tang’s Visitors Services Desk at 518-580-8080.

October 5: Mapping: Images and Symbols
After investigating Ree Morton’s Souvenir Piece, 1973, we will create a map describing our life by using images and symbols to “map” and illustrate the places and locations that we encounter. Join us to explore what a map of our life would look like!
October 12: What Empowers You?
In the exhibition Serious Sparkle, we will explore how artists discuss the idea of beauty and power. What empowers each of us? After thinking about this question, we will create our own masks that reflect the ways that we feel empowered!
October 19: Celebration Weekend – Drop in Art Activity

In the spirit of the artist Ree Morton, join us at the Tang to create your own work of art!
October 26: Moving Images
1:00 to 2:30 PM — For ages 5 to 9
After watching William Kentridge’s animation in the exhibition Beauty and Bite, we will create our own moving drawings in the form of either a flip book or layers of clear acetate! Let’s make a movie!
3:00 to 4:30 PM — For ages 10 to 13
After watching William Kentridge’s animation in the exhibition Beauty and Bite, we will discuss the idea of time and how Kentridge uses text, imagery and motion in his piece. We will then create our own moving drawings in the form of either a flip book or layers of clear acetate as the building block of making a hand-made animation!
November 2: Flags for Friends
In Ree Morton: The Plant That Heals May Also Poison, the artist made flags by hand for loved ones by using personalized symbols to represent each person. Inspired by this gesture, we will create our own flags for someone important in our lives.
November 9: Bugged Out!
1:00 to 2:30 PM — For ages 5 to 9
After we spend some time playing with the installation Elevator Music 39: Bug and listening to the sounds of all the colors in the elevator, we will create our own soundtrack of colorful music. Come and get Bugged Out with us!
3:00 to 4:30 PM — For ages 10 to 13
After investigating the elevator installation Elevator Music 39: Bug, we will discuss the idea of how the different colors and patterns create a diverse range of sounds and tones. Then we will create our own musical score by thinking about what colors and patterns we would “order” to create a melody.
November 16: Futuristic Environments
Looking at the Beehive Project, a collaborative work by Frank Moore and Jim Self in the exhibition Beauty and Bite, we will create our own 3-D “stage” where we imagine a futuristic world where people and all creatures of our home planet Earth coexist in harmony!
November 23: 17th Annual Make-a-Turkey-Out-of-a-Potato Festival
Join us for our 17th Annual Make-a-Turkey-Out-of-a-Potato Festival at the Tang and create your own turkey-potato art just in time for the holiday season — and make new friends while you’re at it! The Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College is a pioneer of interdisciplinary exploration and learning. Rosie will be there to share what Saratoga Sings at Kindermusik is all about. Saratoga Sings offers Kindermusik classes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers and continuing music and voice lessons right here in our area.

Phoebe LaFave is a WGY News Reporter with a passionate interest in true crime.
She began her career in the media industry as an intern at iHeartMedia during her Senior year at The College of Saint Rose which lead to an opening as a Reporter in the WGY Newsroom.
In March of 2019 the first season of Upstate Unsolved premiered, a serialized podcast focusing on Upstate NY cold cases. Season One highlighted Suzanne Lyall, a Ballston Spa native and a UAlbany student who went missing on March 2, 1998.
Season Two will focus on the murders of three Albany county women during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s and will premiere October 3, 2019.
Phoebe lives in Corinth, NY with her extremely dramatic cat.
